American Samurai - Karate-do & Budo News
What began as a journey to explore the old world, developed into an opportunity to learn new skills and improve previously learned martial arts techniques. A trip to Europe brought an old flame back with the desire to learn the amazing combative skills that were deeply rooted in customs rich with codes of conduct. During a time of war these skills were used as a sport and recreation. The experience gave value to the training itself as witnessed people of all walks came together to put aside their differences to train. Mokosu took on a real meaning leaving the cares of the day outside the dojo.
Initially with gi in hand and camera over the shoulder, doors opened along with the chance to meet and work with masters, senior instructors, sensei and yes champions. Combining a keen ability to catch the moment with the shutter and an inquisitive mind provided many opportunities to learn from great martial artist. From these interactions many friendships developed and continue today. Respect always carries the day for us. The experience has been profound and over time the desire to share what was learned lead to a dojo then a magazine and continues today as an online resource. It is a pleasure to share some of my journey and an honor to be able to share yours with others. Thank you to everyone that has contributed to American Samurai. It remains a humbling experience.
